How can I remove an negative item from my credit report?

About 5 years ago, I made the mistake of co-signing on an auto loan for a girlfriend. At the time, I thought I was going to be a back-up co-signer and not a full signatory on the loan. Anyway, I soon learned that I was wrong and the loan was in both names. As you probably expect, the relationship ended and she decided to exact her revenge by not paying her loan on-time. Since the relationship got ugly, I ended up working thru a policeman who would call her to make sure she ended up paying the loans but if I called her directly or thru friends, she would say I was harrassing her so I had to work thru a friend at the police dept. While the loan has now been paid in full, I notice on my credit report that I have three negative items, all from her lack of timely payment on the auto loan. Is there anyone that can offer advice on how I can get these negative reports removed from my credit record????

There is no such thing as a %26quot;backup%26quot; co-signer. When you co-signed on the loan you are saying that you agree to make the payments if she can/does not. All the payment history goes on your report, good and bad. If she was in fact late, there is nothing you can dispute as it is valid information. The only chance you would have is if they reported her 30/60/90 days late and you have proof(in terms of cancelled checks) that she was not as late as they reported.

You are very lucky that the loan is paid in full. If you search this site, you will find several questions about people who co-signed and the person did not complete the loan.

The credit scoring systems give more weight to recent items, so if these are more than couple of years ago the effect is minimal. Also, the fact that the loan is paid is probably helping your score more than the late payments are hurting, if the loan has been paid off for a few months.

go to experians website and request your report or whatever credit bureau you%26#039;re requesting (transunion or equifax.) and once your report arrives log online and enter your info including your report ud # (you will need this) and you can dispute online or you can dispute on teir 1-800# but you still need the credit report id #.

You could have a service delete them for cheap. My mom used a service found at www.aperfectsolution.us and had her credit report cleaned up for just $125. She used promo code TDS. Good luck to you.
