My credit report shows that chase reported my account usage under the chase name and under another name - is that legal

Yes sir,

It happens all the time.

Any company can only report your account one time. However, depending on how the company is organized it may be under a different name. This is fine as long as they are reporting valid information.

There are exceptions, and without knowing all of the details, I have a feeling this is what you may be seeing. When a company %26quot;Charges-Off%26quot; an account because of non-payment they will sell the account to a collection agency. You will then see the Charge-Off from the original creditor(in your case Chase), and another account from the Collection Agency. This is also totally legal.

Another exception could be if the company was bought out by another company. You will see the same account information broken up into two records. However, the first record will stop at a specific Month/Year and the new information will pick it up from there. This does not happen very often, because the new bank%26#039;s name will usually just replace the old bank. But it could happen.

Go to www.creditinfocenter.com for details, but the specific answer is no, legally they cannot. That alone will not stop them from trying, though.

OC1999 is correct.

I look at credit every day and I see this all the time.

indeed they can and they will. please utilize the respective credit bureaus to make the necessary changes and updates about the account. i went through a very similar thing with two creditors - spiegel(fcnb bank) and chevy chase bank. it was a nightmare on my street to say the least! lol it took me a while but i did get it finally straightened it out and it was removed off my credit reports - yes, all three agencies. it%26#039;s called due diligence.
