Another way is to call one of the agencies (transunion, etc) and tell them to put a fraud alert on your account. You can do it online, also. This does 3 things...stops preapproved crap coming in the mail, gets you protected from id theft for 90 days (they call you before giving new credit) and you get 2 copies of your full report (one now, another whenever you want in the next year).
