How can I prevent creditors from reviewing my credit report anytime they feel like it?

When I view my report, I find a list of creditors pulling my report for whatever reason. I don%26#039;t think its fair that people can pull your credit report anytime they feel like it. I%26#039;ve noticed that I also get a bunch of junk mail from some of these same people. What can I do to stop them from getting my information without my permission?

They cannot pull your report without your authorization. (They can pull a soft inquiry which does not count against your score, but not a hard inquiry.) Listed below is a link which has a sample letter disputing the inquiries and requesting them to remove the inquiries.

Matthew O is wrong. They are not supposed to be able to do that unless you ok it like doing a credit application for a credit card, a house, or a car. You might call the credit report company and ask them who authorized the credit check. Did you know that each time some one does a credit check that it actually lowers your credit score?

If you have some affiliation with them or are applying for some type of credit they have a right. They can not just for no reason at all, unless you have requested them to.

To help allieviate some of the annoyances you can opt out of the mailing system. Go to http://opt-out.cdt.org/ for more info. Other than that they can check your credit, but they are not considered %26quot;hard inquiries%26quot;. Hard inquiries are the credit checks that can lower your score. These usually occur when YOU apply for a cc, mortgage, car loan, etc.
