Do we have to pay a debt that has been wiped off a credit report because it could not be validated?

We have been disputing several fraudulent items on my husband%26#039;s credit report and many of them have been removed by the credit bureaus because the creditor reporting the info was not able to verify or validate the debt. However, we just got 2 bills over the weekend for 2 of those debts! Because the original credit could not validate this debt and it was removed by the credit bureau, how do we go about not paying the bill? Do we contact them directly and tell them? Do we report them to the agency that oversees credit practices for harrassment? I don%26#039;t want to keep getting bills in the mail for a debt that is not ours and that we do not owe! HELP! ;o) Thanks in advance for your help!

The credit bureaus only collect information. They have no control over collectors.

Do not call the collectors. Instead send them a certified, return receipt letter indicating the debt is not yours and unless they can provide contracts and other documents that prove this is your debt within 30 days, they should cease and desist contact you. They have to stop contacting you.

Keep copies of the letter with your important financial papers. It is likely the collector will sell the debt off to another agency and you%26#039;ll have to send another cease and desist letter.

The credit reports are just that, reports - you could have a debt that%26#039;s not on there but you do still have to pay for it IF it is a valid debt. What I mean is that just because the credit reporting agencies have acknowledged that they can%26#039;t verify it that doesn%26#039;t mean that the people who the money is owed to have. I%26#039;m assuming this is a credit card, call their fraud victim dept. - if this is a fraudelant debt that you didn%26#039;t take on you DO NOT have to pay it. This may take a lot of phone calls and persistence on your part to get it taken care of though.
