CLOSED account still showing on credit report...?

as far as i know companies can hold personal data and details of your credit for 5 years and they can pass it on to others but after 5 years its illegal to do so

CLOSED account still showing on credit report...?

The credit agency does not have to take this closed account of your report and most likely they wont otherwise everyone with poor reporting would just close their accounts and have %26#039;instant%26#039; good credit.

You CAN write a letter explaining why the history on that account was not the greatest. If you lost your job or had a child during that time, that might be worthy of noting. When someone makes an entry into your credit history your letter will be sent with what they send to the person that is taking the peek.

Good luck to you

check out www.equifax.com., www.experian.com...they are both credit report sites that will offer you some insight on how to get it removed....

Closed accounts are bad news. Not only do they stay, but the actual closing of any account is considered a negative.

CLOSED account still showing on credit report...?

A closed account is not taken off your credit report. A credit report is a record of your history of credit usage. Even if you closed an account, it is still part of your history. I believe accounts will be factored into your score for up to 10 years.

CLOSED account still showing on credit report...?

Your credit report is about credit history-- your behavior over time. Accounts, even closed, are meant to stay on your report for 7 years. You can intiate a dispute with the bureaus and hope you get lucky and get it deleted (it happens) but it is SUPPOSED to stay on there for another 5 years.

And this goes for %26quot;Both accounts%26quot;-- if it was sold to another collection company (or whatever) then it is legitimate that its on your report twice-- the first company took a loss and the second company is still trying to recover the money (or did, if you paid it.)

It%26#039;s just how it works. This is why being responsible with your credit is SO important-- everything you do today effects you for 7 years.

Did THEY close it or did you? If they did, it can stay for 5 years. As for it being there twice, write to the reporting agency, and be prepared to show proof that it is the same debt because they might ask. It is very common to have errors like that on your credit report, but the most common are clerical errors such as misspelled names. It is worth a shot to try to remove one of the listings. And be sure to keep a copy of all the things you send to the agency while attempting to remove it.

Good luck!
