Can I sue for Innaccuracies in my credit report?

My dad and I have the same first and last name. middle names are different and obviously ssn%26#039;s are different. My parents collection items have shown up on my credit report. ive disputed them once but a lot have reappeared. I consider this negligence since its obvious that it is not my social security number on these accounts. This is affecting my credit score and ability to get loans I need.

Why %26quot;sue%26quot; anyone?

How about just contacting them, explaining the situation, and having them rectify it?

I hate all this %26quot;Can I sue........?%26quot; crap.

Go to each credit bureau and file a dispute with them. They will investigate and remove what is not yours.

www.experian.com

www.equifax.com

www.transunion.com

Hope this helps!

EDIT NOTE: Ok, didn%26#039;t know you had disputed already. At this point, you will have to dispute again but also put a fraud alert on your credit. It will raise a flag every time someone tries to put something on your credit report, forcing the bureaus to investigate before allowing the report to proceed. Hopefully the bureaus will have enough sense to see that the reports that the creditors are filing are NOT YOURS. I can see your frustration, but stay on them and threaten to sue if necessary. Good luck!

Have you tried to get the credit reporting agencies to clean up the inaccuracies before you go for the big guns?

The problem is probably not with the credit bureaus but the creditors who are inaccurately reporting information. All you can do is keep disputing the erroneous postings.

Send this letter the verbiage is in a very positive tone and it will produce the best out come. If you have to follow up again change to verbiage to be more blunt. Finally last attempt i would advise a suit.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

This is a letter to request for the removal of inaccurate information on my credit report. This inaccuracy has resulted in many inconveniences. I have not been able to apply for various loans.

I do understand that you have a huge work load and this would have been a minor flaw. But this has curbed my financial options. For your convenience I am sending you the proofs of the items you need to verify. According to the law these changes must be made at the earliest. Otherwise you are likely to violate the federal law.

Please complete the changes at the earliest and send me a copy of the changed credit report.

Thanks,

Sincerely,
